About Our Prints

✦ ❖ ✦

Raja Ravi Varma (1848–1906) of Kilimanoor, Kerala, is one of India's best-loved painters. He brought scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranas to life with a richness never seen before. To share his art with every home, he set up the Ravi Varma Press, and its colour oleographs soon hung in households across the country.

The pieces in our collection are vintage oleographs from the Ravi Varma Press. Each has been lovingly embellished by hand: saris and garments are dressed in real fabric, edged with zari and set with pearls, giving the print texture and a gentle shimmer that a photograph can only hint at. Every print is mounted on cream board, and because each is hand-finished, no two are exactly alike.
